Blackpool Festival 2012 Monday 16th April 2012

Provincial Grand Master takes his team to the Palace;

No not that Palace! But the Palace Masonic Hall at St Annes where the Rt.W. Prov.G. Master Bro. Peter Connolly, the Deputy V.W. Bro. Keith Alan Beardmore, the Ass. W. Bro. Ian Douglas Nairn and the Provincial Team attended the 42nd Blackpool and District Festival.

The Worshipful Master Bro. Mike Casey and the members of Semper Fidelis Lodge of M.M.M. No. 880. Hosted the event, titled “Building of the Second Tracing Board”. 120 were present, including 7 non mark masons to see the Second Tracing Board being built in the centre of the Lodge room, it all started with 2 pillars, chapiters were added followed by globes and an arch, all under the direction of the lodge D.C. W. Bro. Bill Swindlehurst (Prov.Ass.G.D.C. Des.)

The ritual was delivered by Bro's. David Kenworthy, Geoff. Etheridge and the I.P.M. W. Bro. Leon Tax, a narration was given by W. Bro. Tony Farrer to add more interesting factual information. After a winding staircase was erected, the Wardens Bro's. Paul Friberg and David Lawn played their parts by testing the workforce and paying the wages.

The highlight for me was the unveiling of the ear of corn near to a fall of running water! The 5 noble orders of architecture and the 7 liberal Arts and Sciences were then paraded around the Lodge. Many members of the Lodge acted as E.A. and F.C. freemasons, scene shifters, banner bearers and generally helped in the smooth and professional delivery of a very interesting, educational and humorous portrayal of the Second Degree Tracing Board.

A cheque for £880-00 was given, to mark the occasion, for the Mark Benevolent fund. W. Bro. Geoff. Crossland ( P.G.Std.Br. Des) coordinated the evening in his capacity as Lodge Secretary and with 109 dining he was kept on his toes. At the Festive Board a freshly minted Mark Token ordered by the Worshipful Master was available, with the proceeds going to the charities.

After the Prov. Grand Master had thanked the Lodge on their sterling efforts, he was presented with a set of miniature tracing boards. On a sad note it was the last Team Visit of a very successful year and thought to be a year of record attendances by the acting Provincial Officers, all are to be congratulated; there were one or two moist eyes as they handed their “Gongs” back to the Provincial Secretary.

The last speaker of the evening was W. Bro. Bob Mc Gown P.G.A.D.C. Chairman of the Blackpool & District Association of Mark Lodges who thanked Semper Fidelis Mark Lodge for an exceptional evening and called on W. Bro. Alan Gould, Master of Prince Setanta Mark Lodge No. 1446. to host the Festival next year, who was delighted to accept.

The festival is hosted by one of the 7 Lodges on the Fylde Coast each year in rotation and the Lodges are proud to take part in putting their Mark skills to the test. The evening ended with the Brethren returning home to all parts of the province after enjoying a splendid ceremony, good food, wonderful companionship and camaraderie fit for a king, at the “Palace”.
